Mission Statement
To provide a medium of interaction between Caribbean students throughout the state of Florida, and to act as a representing body of Caribbean students on issues such as education, tuition, cultural and political awareness.
Founding
Preliminary work on FCSA began in the summer of 1990 by Marlon Hill
and his administration at Florida State University. One year
later in Fall 1991 the dream became a reality. Dwight Powell,
then president of the Caribbean Students Association at FSU and his
administration found success when seven institutions accepted FSU's
invitation to come to FSU to help form the association.
The first formal organizational session of FCSA was held on October
18-19, 1992. In attendance were representatives from FAMU,
FAU, FIU, FSU, UCF, UF, USF, and Tallahassee Community College.
Development
The
Florida Caribbean Students' Association (FCSA Inc.) was established
in 1991. It was created with goals of providing a medium of
interaction between Caribbean students throughout the state of
Florida, and to act as a representing body of Caribbean students on
issues such as education, tuition, and cultural and political
awareness. Also, they act as a lobbying force on issues of minority
interest, including minority empowerment and to facilitate links
between other Caribbean organizations throughout the United States
of America. FCSA has become the mother organization to over 40
organizations at colleges and universities across the state of
Florida. FCSA Inc. convenes for statewide conferences during the
fall and spring semesters. Since its inception FCSA Inc. has
successfully hosted thirty-four (34) conferences, serviced more than
20,000 students, and amassed numerous successful alumni. These conferences have provided students with the opportunity for one-on-one networking with fellow students and experts in a variety of fields.
Executive Board 2008-2009

Name:
Kerri-Jo McLean
FCSA E-Board Position:
President, 2008-2009
I Rep:
Jamaica
School:
University of South Florida
Majors:
Political Science and International Studies
Some Stuff About me:
I enjoy debating, reading and writing. I am a music addict and a
party animal. I enjoy having a good time with good people.
Why I Joined FCSA:
I was introduced to The American West Indian Club, the Caribbean
Students’ Association on the South Campus of Broward Community
College. There, I met an array of different individuals from many
different Caribbean countries, who shared the same passion and
patriotism for their country as I did for Jamaica and discovered a
mutual cultural experience. CSA at BCC became my home away from
home. The organization FCSA and its activities, with a special
emphasis on their Conference was constantly touted amongst my peers.
After becoming the President of BCC’s CSA I began attending FCSA
delegates meetings, but my appreciation and love for the
organization sprang into being in 2006, after attending my first
conference at the University of Florida. The knowledge I took from
conference and experience I had there has etched indelible prints in
my brain and from there I took special interests in becoming a more
active member of FCSA. I now serve in the capacity of President for
2008-2009 and I look forward to working with and serving the member
delegates of this organization. My pledge is to help FCSA in
fulfilling its potential in becoming a distinguished organization in
the community. Moving
Forward, Reaching Out and Giving Back!

I
enjoy reading, writing, watching tv and movies, reading Wikipedia. I
also enjoy studying flags.
Why I joined FCSA:
I
see FCSA as an opportunity to give back to our region, our host
country, and to each other. Within FCSA I see the future Doctors,
Lawyers, Engineers, Policy makers, Journalists, Mothers and Fathers
of our countries. We have the opportunity to better ourselves while
in college and FCSA provides another avenue to do so. FCSA has given
me the chance to interact with those persons who will hold the
health of my sons, the justice for my brothers and the shelter for
my father in their hands. I value the interactions that I have had,
and now look to the future for many more similar and even better
experiences.

Name:
Tamika Johnson
FCSA
E-Board Position: Secretary 08-09
I Rep:
Jamaica
School:
Florida International University (FIU), Senior
Major:
Elementary Education
Some
stuff about me: I enjoy traveling, reading, movies, shopping and
electronics
Why I
joined FCSA: I joined Florida Agricultural & Mechanical
University in Fall 2005.
I have always been engaged
in extracurricular activities in high school and wanted to do the
same in college. I
joined FAMU’s CSA in Fall 2006 and attended conference at the
University of Florida in Gainesville.
I really enjoyed conference and was excited about the amount
of people I met during the conference.
I then transferred to FIU in Spring 2007 and decided to join
their CSA as well. I
became an intern on FIU CSA E-board and decided to run for Secretary
07-08. My time on the
E-board was well spent.
I learned many new things and met many different people.
I was also the Conference Director for FIU conference in
Spring 2008. That was a
great experience and that helped make my decision to become a part
of Florida Caribbean Student Association (FCSA) and I ran for the
position of Secretary 08-09.
My intentions are to better myself and to better the
organization and that’s what I plan to do.

Keianna D.L. Liburd
FCSA E-board Position:
Treasurer
2008-2009
I Rep:
The friendly Island of St.Maarten
School:
Barry University (transfer from Miami Dade College-North)
Major:
Accounting
Some stuff about me:
I enjoy dancing, modeling, and playing my Nintendo DS.
Why I joined FCSA:
I moved to Miami, Florida in March 2006. During this time the only
person I knew was my best friend. The following year, I started
hearing about this organization on my campus called Tropical Beat. I
was intrigued immediately because I no longer felt like a small fish
in a big pond; I was surrounded by my Caribbean people. I quickly
got acquainted with almost every member of my CSA and CSA’s of other
schools in District 6. Just my luck, I joined just in time to attend
my first conference at Nova South Easter University in the spring of
’07 and I have not missed an event since then. I have met a lot of
people since then; who have turned into lifelong friends. I have
served as the MDC CSA Vice President (07-08) and I am now the FCSA
Treasurer for the 08-09 year.
Reaching out, moving forward, and giving back.

Why I joined FCSA:
I joined FCSA because this
organization’s strength of bringing Caribbean Students together and
having us “Unite as One” is what I love. Johnson and Wales
University’s Caribbean Student Association is fairly new to FCSA and
I’ve only been to two conferences but what I’ve seen and the steps
we as an organization take to make it happen shows the commitment,
the respect, the unity and most importantly the love of being
together as Caribbean People.
